Reimagining the Icon: Versace T-shirt Design Collaboration 2025
Client: Versace
As part of Versace’s Reimagining the Icon artist collaboration, I was invited to reinterpret the brand’s iconic Medusa logo through a personal lens — one that explores mythology, femininity, and rebirth.
My design centers on a reimagined Medusa — not simply the fearsome figure of legend, but a dual being: soft and powerful, wounded and awakening. Inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses, where Medusa was once a kind and devoted priestess punished for a violence inflicted upon her, I wanted to reclaim her image as a symbol of how women have historically been silenced, vilified, and turned into monsters by the gaze of others.
The illustration draws from Versace’s oceanic collections (1992, 2005, 2021), classical motifs like Roman columns, and the form of a real-life Medusa flower — wild, strange, and beautiful, like serpents blooming from the sea. At the center is a “dual Medusa,” emerging from chains with two mirrored faces: one with eyes open, one gently closed — one to gaze outward and defy, the other to reflect and heal.
Beneath her, a seashell references The Birth of Venus, but instead of seduction, it poses a quiet question:
If Medusa were reborn, could she reclaim her body, her story, her fate?
The final design was printed on a limited-edition T-shirt with embroidered details — transforming the digital illustration into a wearable symbol of feminine power and narrative agency.
This collaboration was featured by InStyle China and The Art Journal (Meta Media Group), and launched across Versace’s global channels.
